Yarn with us: help shape the future of culturally safe supports

At Helping Solutions, we know that meaningful change happens when communities are heard, respected and represented.

We’re inviting passionate people to express their interest in joining our Cultural Guidance Committee, a group dedicated to helping guide our organisation’s journey towards culturally safe, inclusive and responsive services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our First Nations Engagement Lead, Jasmine Brahim, works closely with community to strengthen connections, create opportunities and ensure that culture remains at the heart of how we support people. As a Yamatji woman from the Naaguja Mob, Jasmine brings both lived experience and professional expertise to this work, helping us build stronger relationships and better outcomes for individuals, families and communities.

Why a Cultural Guidance Committee?

We recognise that cultural understanding is not something organisations achieve alone. It grows through listening, partnership and ongoing learning.

The Cultural Guidance Committee will provide valuable insights and perspectives to help us:

  • Strengthen cultural safety across our services
  • Build stronger relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Support the development of culturally responsive programs and initiatives
  • Guide our Reconciliation Action Plan journey
  • Identify opportunities to create positive change and address gaps in support
  • Celebrate and elevate First Nations voices, knowledge and experiences

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome expressions of interest from:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members
  • Elders and respected cultural leaders
  • Participants, family members and carers
  • Disability sector professionals
  • Community advocates
  • People passionate about reconciliation, inclusion and community connection

You don’t need to have previous committee experience. What matters most is your willingness to share your knowledge, perspectives and ideas to help create meaningful change.

Creating Change Together

At Helping Solutions, we believe the best outcomes come from working alongside community, not making decisions on behalf of community. The Cultural Guidance Committee will provide a space for conversation, collaboration and cultural leadership to help guide our organisation’s future direction.

If you’re interested in helping shape culturally safe services, strengthen community connections and contribute to positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, we’d love to hear from you.

Because real change starts with listening. And every good partnership starts with a yarn.
